There are two river walks in Killorglin, both quite different and each charming in its own way.
1. The LAUNE RIVER BANK TRAIL
This short but magical trail begins at the Mill car park on Annadale Road.
When at the car park, head down towards the river bank where you will find a picnic table and an information board which gives details about the County Bridge and the River Laune and its man-made embankments.
From here, cross the small bridge onto the river embankment and enjoy a short walk with the river on your left and the alluvial woodlands on your right.
Trees you will come across are willow, alder, birch and hawthorn. In spring, the place is alive with wild flowers.
This section of the river forms part of the Castlemaine Harbour Special Area of Conservation and a variety of birds and other animals can be seen here. There are a number of information boards along the path to help identify the wild plants and animals.
When you reach the barrier, turn around and enjoy the stroll back to the car park.
The walk discribed takes a total of about 20 minutes there and back.
2. The ASTELLAS RIVERSIDE TRAIL
For an experience of nature, wildlife and a close up view of the Metal Bridge and the wind turbine, walk the Astellas Trail, which has a good path and information boards along the way. Download our leaflet above for a map, how to get to the starting point and what you may see along the way.
