CURRENT SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT
-
Living Sustainably -
a four week course exploring how the community in Killorglin could be more sustainable and resilient.

Killorglin Tidy Towns, in association with Transition Kerry Education Programme, are currently running a brief and informative course in how a community, in this case Killorglin, can live in a sustainable and resilient way.
The sessions are two hours long, lively, enjoyable and interactive!
A number of speakers and facilitator talk about their own special subject.
Topics covered include:

Creating a vision of a Resilient Community
Energy Choices - Water Conservation - Stopping Food Waste
Local Food Resilience - Biodiversity
In session 4 we draw up aCommunity Action Plan based on the question – How do we build local resilience?

The course started on Wednesday 18th February at 7.30pm in the Killorglin Family Resource Centre and ran over the following 3 weeks.

Recently completed event - KILLORGLIN EARTH HOUR PROJECT
On February 7th, our Energy Awareness Fair happened at St Michael's Hall, Killorglin 3-5pm
with the big one-hour SWITCH OFF in and around Killorglin 7-8pm
KILLORGLIN EARTH HOUR happened Saturday 7th Febraury – from 7 to 8pm. But what exactly is Killorglin Earth Hour? It is the challenge set for us by young Kate Moroney. She wanted each and every one of us to switch off one non-essential electrical item for one hour on Saturday 7th February at 7pm. And why switch off? Well, when you are talking about energy that is generated from Fossil Fuels, every bit of energy saved is that much less damage to our beautiful planet!
To celebrate our very own Earth Hour Kate suggested that you could  have a candle lit dinner, talk to your neighbours, stargaze, write a poem, play board games, have a concert, tell a story by the fireside…… the possibilities are endless. Hope you had a happy earth hour!
Earlier that day (Saturday 7th February) – Kate, with a little help from ourselves, arranged an interactive and informative Energy Fair at St Michael’s Hall, Iveragh Road - free, fun and very enjoyable.

GREAT NEWS - Killorglin Town has achieved a Green Community flag.
We will be formally presented with this flag in March 2015.
We will put the date/other details up on face book when we get our invitation....
