KTT Green Christmas Initiative 2012

'Green' Christmas tree in the libary, Killorglin, 2012
KTT organised the Green Christmas initiative to support and encourage waste minimisation in Killorglin.
Households generate more waste at Christmas than at any other time of the year, and a lot of this waste is preventable. The Green Christmas initiative focuses on three aspects:
In the run up to Christmas we have worked with community groups and organisations such as St. Joseph's Home, the CYMS, the Woman 2000 group and Scoil Mhuire to promote recycling and waste reduction. Some highlights of the Green Christmas initiative include an eco-Christmas tree in the Library, recycled christmas decorations in Scoil Mhuire and the distribution of great food waste reduction tips at Kevin Dundon's cooking display at PK's SuperValu on 18 December. Finally on 12 January we held a Green Christmas Recycling Drive. Many thanks to all who supported the project!
Well done to all the children who participated in the recycled decoration competition - a range of photos are available in our gallery

We also encourage families to do a 'Secret Santa' gift exchange with family and friends and consider donating old or unwanted gifts.
Avoid giving perishable items or bulky presents if you're not sure that they will be used - a voucher for a night's babysitting or a beauty treatment is often more welcome than a big present, and the carbon footprint is much smaller!
