BALLYKISSANE PIER TRAIL
Experience the combination of history, culture and tranquillity surrounded by nature
This 4km round trip trail starts in the centre of town and leads down to the pier where the River Laune enters the sea at Castlemaine Harbour. Along the way you can sit and relax at the old pump enclosure and on a fine day enjoy views of the Sliabh Mish mountains. The pier itself is a peaceful place where there are great opportunities for viewing birdlife, particularly when the tide is out and the mudflats are revealed. So pack a flask of coffee, grab your binoculars and head down to Ballykissane and while away a couple of relaxing hours.
NOTE: care is needed while walking the road, particularly close to the humpback bridge and where there is no pedestrian footpath. Otherwise the terrain is good, on tarmac all the way. Wear a high visibility jacket if you have one.
